M. ISAAC, Future Music
Sorry, but I have to gripe. This one might get personal for a lot of new Akai users. But to the few purists who are reading this I know that you will understand. These days an MPC is little more than a large calculator that doubles as an idiot's computer.
That being said, is there anything more fun than banging away at its primitive "drum pads"? But since the advent of programs such as Project 5, Reason, Logic, Pro Tools, and many other such Midi based computer programs, you really have to ask yourself, "Why am I still using the MPC?" Now if you're an MPC 2000xl user or older, you have a very good reason for using the MPC, but if you have anything after that, let me put it in plain language: You're not fully right in the head.
There were times in both Hip-Hop and Electronic Music where the MPC 60 and MPC 3000, accompanied closely by either an E-MU Sp – 12 or a synthesizer with an ARP opened sonic gateways never before dreamed.
But honestly, those times have passed. Now the only places for such setups are for antiqued production methods and 2 track consoles. What aggravates me the most is that 99% of the people buying MPC's these days have no idea what made the older MPC such a beautiful machine in the first place. People spend $1000's on what's now become little more than a play-toy like a PSP. Stop being a tool, learn how to use one. Do any of you have a clue as to what made the original MPC's so great? Tell me.
